Writ large: Dior Homme gets playful with stylish scribbles

Paris – As usual, smart tailoring was at the heart of the Dior Homme spring/summer 2015 show, but Belgian designer Kris van Assche injected a hint of playfulness with scrawls of Christian Dior handwriting and playful squiggles marking the later outfits.

Paris – As usual, smart tailoring was at the heart of the Dior Homme spring/summer 2015 show, but Belgian designer Kris van Assche injected a hint of playfulness with scrawls of Christian Dior's handwriting and colourful squiggles marking the later outfits.

Van Assche was inspired by a letter he found in the company's archives. 'Traditions have to be maintained so they can be passed on to future generations,' it reads. 'In troubled times like ours, we must maintain these traditions, which are our luxury and the flower of our civilisation.' Van Assche applied this text across shirts and belts, sweatshirts and shorts. Dior's signature was also strewn across collars, and as the show progressed, text turned into painterly streaks – a playful blend of tradition and modernity.

The collection reminds LS:N Global of our Painterly Primitive design direction, in which designers embrace primitive markings and a hand-scrawled aesthetic.
