US – Forerunner is a new print magazine that reveals the people and places behind video games.
For the first issue, the team visited people connected to video games, from programmers and testers to academics and industry founders. ‘We visited anyone who was willing to talk to us in and around the video games industry,’ the editors explained.
The magazine features an interview with Nolan Bushnell, the co-founder of the legendary Atari gaming system, a profile on IGN Entertainment, one of the world’s leading video game media brands, which has a monthly readership of around 72m. They also met with composer and game developer Scattle, who wears a mask that resembles a plug socket.
The look and feel of Forerunner is closer to that of an indie publication than an established games magazine. Its beautiful illustrations and photography elevate the publication to become a collectible rather than throwaway magazine.
Gaming is no longer a niche pastime but an important part of mainstream culture that is driving today’s visual trends. See our Video Games Market for more on this ever-changing realm.
