US – Pantone has introduced a blend of two tones for 2016 to symbolise tranquillity and wellness.
Pantone’s annual Colour of the Year selection reflects the prevailing mood and cultural currents setting the tone for the creative industries. For 2016, the research institute focused on the power of colour to boost spirits and enhance wellbeing, tapping into our macrotrend The Optimised Self.
The choice to harmonise rather than contrast colour tones aims to represent the pursuit of order and spiritual connection. ‘As consumers seek mindfulness and wellbeing as an antidote to modern-day stresses, welcoming colours that psychologically fulfil our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent,’ said Pantone in a statement.
Colour and light wave stimulation are increasingly used in design to endow everyday objects with therapeutic qualities. For more on the optimising qualities of colour, read our Euphorescence design direction.
