Los Angeles – The connected home has taken a step closer to reality with Beam, a screw-in smart projector and lamp.
Beam, which more than doubled its funding on Kickstarter, fits into any socket in the home and can be connected to any smart device via wifi and Bluetooth. The device turns any flat surface into a screen, ideal for Millennials used to watching media on laptops with limited screen size, and can connect via AirPlay or Miracast.
Combining functionality – it doubles as both a lamp and speakers – with connectivity, users can programme Beam with a limitless number of If/Then commands via its app.
Beam can be programmed to initiate various apps at different times of the day or, depending on which connected device it registers, for example, show social updates when its user returns from work, or weather forecasts when the morning alarm goes off.
