Brass works: Tom Dixon looks back to look forward

Paris – British designer Tom Dixon will be presenting a collection of brass homeware accessories at this year’s interior design fair Maison&Objet in Paris.

Dixon, who is known for his work with copper and brass, created two collections, Cog and Arc, which reference the industrial past while alluding to a science fiction vision of the future. The Cog candelabras look as if they were taken from the innards of an industrial machine, while the Arc corkscrew and bottle opener are subtly space age.

‘As we scour factories worldwide, we find ourselves constantly referring to great British engineering,’ said Dixon. The pieces have a ‘science fiction-inspired futuristic simplicity combined with practical shapes that are easy to use’, he added.

The use of brass and references to industrial machinery contrasted with more bold shapes is evocative of our Industrial Futurism design direction.
