CES: Ray band: Bracelet helps wearers stay safe from sun

10 : 01 : 2014 Netatmo : CES : Bracelet

Las Vegas– Netatmo has unveiled June, the first bracelet to measure sun exposure and provide personalised skin protection advice, at the 2014 International CES.

June consists of a multifaceted geometric ‘jewel’ with a light sensor and a companion smartphone app. The jewel measures sun exposure throughout the day, and the app notifies the user about when and how to protect themselves, in order to avoid sunburn and premature ageing of the skin.

‘You will get protection recommendations, such as which SPF you should apply and if you should wear a hat, some glasses, or even seek shade,’ product manager Emmanuelle Thomas tells LS:N Global.

June can be worn around the wrist with a strap, as a brooch, or in other ways chosen by the wearer. It is due for release in the second quarter of this year.

So far, Netatmo has not revealed any brand partnerships, but it is easy to see how the app might suggest certain skin products as part of the advice it gives wearers. ‘We’re not communicating that for the moment,’ Thomas says.
