Gwangju, South Korea – A quick glance at designer Jinil Park’s The Drawing Series appears to show rough sketches, but in reality it is 3D furniture made out of wires.
Park, whose work was on display at the Gwangju Biennale, translated the initial sketches of his furniture designs into chairs, a table and lamps. Wires of different thicknesses were welded together to create the illusion of pencil-drawn furniture.
At Dutch Design Week 2012, LS:N Global spotted furniture made out of fragile materials such as lace taking on a flat appearance. Park’s series is also reminiscent of Dutch designer Elvira ‘t Hart’s clothing line, which takes inspiration from scrawled sketches. Both are optical illusions that play with form and function to create a curiosity-evoking product.
