Fogo Island, Canada – Fogo Island is a remote island off the coast of Newfoundland, where the Atlantic Ocean meets Canadian territory. A new hotel, the Fogo Island Inn, has opened for visitors seeking a reprieve from urban life.
Designed by Saunders Architecture, the Fogo Island Inn was commissioned by the Shorefast Foundation, an organisation dedicated to encouraging cultural production and geo-tourism on the island.
The hotel is designed with respite in mind. Each of its 29 suites have panoramic views of the ocean, there are rooftop hot tubs ideal for stargazing and a fine-dining restaurant – all in a structure built on stilts on the rocky shoreline, 100 metres away from the sea.
LS:N Global previously featured the Shorefast Foundation’s Fogo Island artist studios for visiting artists. The Inn is a step in a more commercial direction, in line with our Luxury Matrix Stage 5, which sees luxurians no longer buying products as status symbols, but searching for intellectual journeys where they can slow down and contemplate life.
