Colour crazy: Lookbook embraces kitsch culture

13 : 08 : 2013 Abstract : Playful Design : Lookbook

Hamburg – German design studio YBDPT commissioned a colourfully kitsch lookbook to promote the launch of New York boutique and brand Opening Ceremony’s spring/summer collaborative collection with Adidas Originals.

The lookbook presents the clothing with a bombardment of colours and prints, highlighting its sporty, playful nature. The graphics mimic the bold lines and patterns of the collection, but the book is not a classic presentation of the clothing. Instead it dedicates several pages to typography, with words and graphics related to sports referencing the mood of the collection without displaying any clothes.

The lookbook is part of a trend among designers to inject optimism and humour into clothing and interiors. To learn how your brand can go kitsch, read our Neo Kitsch Toolkit.
