Austin, Texas – To promote its cinemas, the Alamo Drafthouse chain in Texas has posted a video on YouTube of a customer complaint left by an angry woman who was ejected.
In the foul-mouthed complaint, which has been watched nearly 3m times, the woman recalls her experience of being thrown out of the cinema for using her mobile phone, saying: ‘I’ve texted in all the other theatres in Austin, and no one ever gave a fuck about what I was doin’ on my fuckin’ phone.’
In response to her angry voicemail, the Alamo Drafthouse said: ‘Occasionally, someone doesn’t follow the rules, and we do, in fact, kick their asses out of our theatre.’ The chain is now showing the video before film screenings to warn other movie-goers against using their phone.
Posting a complaint to promote its business is a bold and counter-intuitive way for a company to use social media. To learn more about anarchic thinking, read our Anarconomy Decade macrotrend.
