Milan – Dutch design collective Weltevree is showing no new products at the Milan design fair 2011. Instead, it has started a social network called World Wide Local.
‘World Wide Local is about bringing people together who have the same mindset,’ Joris Montens, Weltevree’s head of communications, tells LS:N Global. ‘They don’t have to be Weltevree product owners. They just have to like being in nature and living a simple but adventurous life.’
Using Google Maps functionality, the network lets users swap location-relevant tips relating to the outdoor life, and Weltevree products. They might swap recipes to cook in their Outdooroven, for example, share images of them diving off the Divewood, or post suggestions of where to set up their Bathtub 4P and buy firewood to heat it.
LS:N Global will be expanding on this, and presenting other compelling ideas from Milan design fair 2011 in our comprehensive report, available next week.
