Home of 2020: A touch of class at Heimtextil

21 : 01 : 2011 Heimtextil : The Israel Textile & Fashion Association : Messe Frankfurt

Frankfurt – The Israel Textile & Fashion Association collaborated with Messe Frankfurt at the Heimtextil exhibition earlier this month to run a competition in which students and young designers from Israel were asked to interpret what the home might look like in 2020. On show at stand 06 in foyer hall 4.1, the winning work was a study in tactility and material sensitivity.

Esther Yaloz created different types of materials mixed with thermochromic and photochromic textile dyes that react to heat and light. ‘My inspiration came from wild flowers,’ Yaloz tells LS:N Global. ‘Flowers react naturally to the sun’s light and heat, and my project mimics that.’

Anat Dotan presented the I Wall, a personalisable and interactive textile wall featuring modular interchanging tiles. ‘The concept came from touch technology,’ Dotan tells LS:N Global. ‘You can change and tailor the wall to how you want, just as you can change the applications on your smartphone.’

Look out for LS:N Global’s Heimtextil market report next week.
