United States – A new, innovative method of purifying water – using just a spoon and a sachet of powder – is a pertinent example of how brand-backed technology can help hundreds of thousands obtain safe, clean drinking water every day. In collaboration with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Procter & Gamble has developed a chemical sachet that, when dissolved in a glass of water, acts as a filter for impurities and dangerous bacteria in a matter of minutes. Called PUR Purifier of Water, the technology can purify even the most heavily contaminated water, bringing it up to the World Health Organisation’s standard of safe drinking water.
The development of PUR technology is another step in P&G’s Children’s Safe Drinking Water programme, through which the brand provides emergency relief work and establishes not-for-profit markets to provide safe drinking-water technology to children and their families in the developing world.
