Playing cards as an empathy-building tool

11 : 05 : 2017 Culture : Branding : Workplace

New York – Questions & Empathy encourages players to consider everyday situations from a different perspective.

Design agency Sub Rosa created a series of prompt cards to use internally at its Applied Empathy speaker series. The cards proved so popular that the company decided to develop a commercial version, which is available to buy online.

Emotional intelligence and the ability to empathise with others will be one of the most sought-after job skills in the future, according to the World Economic Forum.

The cards are divided into seven empathic archetypes developed by Sub Rosa, including Sage, Inquirer, Convener, Alchemist, Confident, Seeker and Cultivator, and are designed to encourage introspection. Players consider a series of situations through the lens of each archetype to identify their own strengths and weaknesses.

‘As you do some self-reflection and figure out where you have strengths and weaknesses, you become a more empathetic collaborator, partner or friend,’ Michael Ventura, founder of Sub Rosa, told Cool Hunting.
