Seattle – ‘Flat is boring’ is the opening line of the video demonstrating the interactive Radioball. While touchscreens are easy to use and nice to look at, product development firm Teague believes they remove engagement.
Instead, with their Radioball, Teague industrial designers Benoit Collette and Adam Kumpf claim ‘round is rich’ and that the device encourages interaction.
‘The Radioball doesn’t use screens, buttons or knobs. Instead, listeners can actively engage with the radio by rolling and spinning it to find stations among the warm fuzz of the FM dial,’ they say on Teague’s website. ‘Compare that with today’s digital-based interaction of screens and switches. They give us exactly what we want when we want it, but leave no room to stumble onto alternative choices.’
Users interact with the ball by rolling it. It then tunes into different stations depending on its position. If the music is good, simply stamp ‘I like’ on the ball.
