Bar none

13 : 02 : 2017 Bonechina : Food & Drink : Future Forecast

Frankfurt – Bonechina is a new bar concept that encourages a convivial atmosphere by removing traditional elements.

  • The visual identity of the bar, which does not feature a bar counter or bartender, was designed by Studio Aberja
  • The bar’s origami-inspired, 3D-printed porcelain elephant was created by sculptor Marc Rammelmüller

According to the bar founders, Bonechina is dedicated to ‘the art of drinking’. Guests are served by two hosts who are available to make drinks on request using a selection of home-made ingredients, and are also free to serve themselves.

The bar features elements that aim to spark discussion, such as a 3D-printed elephant sculpture that dispenses tonic water and ice cubes infused with aromatic flavours such as vetiver and sandalwood.

Space is limited to 20 guests to enable visitors to converse in a relaxed setting. Soft materials such as pear wood furniture, upholstery and curtains add to the intimate feel, and contrast against ceramic tiles in shades of blue and anthracite.

The Big Picture

Bars are developing casual drinking experiences that enable consumers to learn more about the ingredients and processes behind their drinks. To find out more, read the No-bar Bars section of our Future Forecast 2017: Food and Drink briefing.
