US – Anxy is a print magazine that aims to tackle the stigmas around mental illness.

  • Anxy is raising funds on Kickstarter, and has achieved more than 75% of its £41,000 ($50,000, €45,500) goal
  • Founder Indhira Rojas wants to create a lifestyle magazine about mental health that people are not ashamed or embarassed to be seen reading

According to Rojas and her team, the internet has become a place where people are more willing to talk about mental health issues, but the problem of the impermanence of online conversations remains.

‘With a lot of what is happening in online content, sometimes you read something and it disappears into this void,’ Rojas told Nieman Lab. ‘So you don’t have the chance to revisit it as we do when it is a physical object that you can see and touch and accidentally revisit.’

Anxy will be a bi-annual magazine that will stand apart from other content that focuses on mental health by not necessarily focusing on finding solutions or self-help advice. Rather, it will use storytelling and design to open up the conversation around mental health. Its thoughtful design encourages readers to have the magazine on display rather than hidden away.

The Big Picture
