Split personality: Honda’s interactive ad for the Civic Type R

London – Honda is showing the dark side of its new Civic Type R with an interactive YouTube video that conveys the two sides of the company’s latest model.

The Other Side, produced by advertising agency Wieden + Kennedy London, shows off the wild-child alter ego of the Civic hatchback. Viewers can flit between two three-minute films that seamlessly mirror each other by pressing the ‘R’ button on their keyboard in the interactive experience developed by production agency Stinkdigital.

The first shows a father, played by actor Jean-Phillipe Ricci, as he picks up his children from school and takes them to a surprise fancy dress party. The second darker version sees the same father in his job as an undercover agent, involved in a sting to catch two art thieves.

‘We wanted people to feel Honda’s other side as well as see it,’ Weiden + Kennedy London said in a statement on its website. ‘So we dreamt up a technique that brings together both narratives through a simple interaction.’

For more on how brands can ensure their message is heard through interactive video, see our Inform interview with Pieter Mees, Zentrick founder and CEO.
