Sport & Leisure: Notable Seed stories from 2009

Amsterdam, Las Vegas, London – A restaurant on an oil-rig, an integrated home network and a new Bleisure space are our top three picks from our Leisure category in 2009.

Built in 1964 and originally used as a media island for commercial radio and television broadcasts, an old oil rig brought to shore in 2006 is now being revamped by Dutch architecture firm Concrete. As well as a new restaurant and exhibition space, the lower deck will be used as it was originally, as a media studio.

Meanwhile in Las Vegas, iRiver launched an integrated home network that keeps all a user’s tech necessities in one place. The WAVE-HOME multimedia and communications unit integrates all of a user’s digital content, from emails and text messages to music and video. Perfect for the home worker during this Bleisure age.

Another Bleisure arrived in London, with a new space for freelancers in the West End. Organised by Hub Culture, a ‘socially operated’ movement that enables freelancers to network with one another via an invitation-only website, The Pavilion enables freelances to work and network in one place – yet another important tool in the increasingly project-led age of freelance workers.
