Tokyo – Japanese design firm Nendo has taken the mundane but essential tools of office life and transformed them into pieces that are as attractive as they are functional.
In a wide-ranging stationery collection, the designers rethought how each piece would work as it sits on the desk as well as when in use. For instance, a flexible cube is a fitting paperweight until it is needed as a rubber band. Paper clips link into a circle, making a nice neat design that sits flat on a desk rather than being an untidy pile of tangled metal. The flip pen functions as a stylus for tablets and as a regular pen.
The Nendo stationery is a perfect example of ‘form follows function’ design. As in our Uni-forms design direction, Nendo has stripped back each product to its essence, creating utilitarian and simple items.
