Dessau-Rosslau, Germany – The Bauhaus design movement is one of the most prominent of the 20th century. Now fans can spend a night in former dormitories at the Bauhaus School at Dessau and imagine what it was like to be a student there, learning about the power of simplicity and geometry in the 1920s.
The school has recently refurbished the Studio Building, where students used to live, as a hotel. One room is a complete reconstruction with original Bauhaus furniture, while the rest are recreations of how the dorms might have looked when occupied by certain famous inhabitants. Visitors can also dine in the original canteen where students ate their meals.
In our Resurrection Stores microtrend, we traced the revitalisation of some grand-dame department stores. Opening up a Bauhaus building to overnight visitors is a similar idea, and offers access to history as well as an unforgettable experience.
