France – Japanese design studio Nendo has created a series of tables featuring pencil shading in pastel colours.
The use of personal markings and pastel shades was on show at Dutch Design Week 2012, as we reported in our Dutch Design Week Review.
The Colored-pencil tables were created using a method known as udukuri, in which the softer parts of the cypress wood were worn away to expose the grain. Paper was then laid over the top and coloured in using pastel shades, creating a personal markings and rubbing effect.
The tables will be on show at the Saint-Étienne Design Biennial in France from 14 to 31 March.
