Milan – Former Yugoslavia-born designer Viktor Matic is to show his new www line of shelving, inspired by digital communication networks, at Milan Furniture Fair this month.
The shelves are formed from strings stretched across a heptagonal frame. The strings can be tightened or loosened to create different angles through the frames.
‘The project explores the increasing digitalisation of our environment, our daily life and the dematerialisation of traditional communication,’ says Matic. ‘Changing the tension of the material [thread] changes the whole function, form and content of the object, and gives it a transience.’
This is a great example of design that uses tension to create a compelling, customisable furniture installation. For more on what lays in store for visitors to the Milan Furniture Fair, read our Show Preview.
