London– Design company 1882 is re-interpreting fine bone china with a collection of lights called Bone.
Bone china is traditionally used for plates, bowls and cups, but company designer and founder Emily Johnson is making use of its properties in the collection to create lights that generate a luminous, diffusive glow.
‘One of the inherent qualities of this material is that it has this wonderful delicate translucency, and throughout the material’s history – until now – this quality has been overlooked,’ she says.
Emily Johnson is the fifth in a generation of the Johnson family who have become famous for producing fine bone china.
