Milan – ‘Very strong or very light, you should always feel the material,’ Giulio Cappellini, owner of the eponymous Italian furniture manufacturer, tells LS:N Global.
His company’s collection, set in the high-ceilinged and silver-floored warehouse space of the Milano Design Village, included Erwan and Ronan Bouroullec’s new Basket chairs, which feature steel frames softened by billowing pillows with leather trim accent detail. Also on show were Bac One and Bac Two chairs by Jasper Morrison, and Thin Black Tables by Nendo.
The result is a mix of weights and materials, but always presented with honesty and a focus on the materials. As Guilio Cappellini says: ‘Whether it’s wood or porcelain or recycled plastic, you always want to understand it as the material it actually is.’
LS:N Global will be reporting all this week from Milan. Our comprehensive Milan report will be on sale next week.
