Amsterdam – Jeans brand Denham has teamed up with Woad Inc to release a DIY dye kit. The dye is made from the woad plant, which grows on a farm in Norwich, England. The plant looks like a cross between spinach and sugar beet, and dates back to ancient times. ‘It was the only way to get a natural blue into countries,’ explains woad farmer Ian Howard.
Denham is also releasing 75 hand-finished pairs of jeans, which will be available in its Amsterdam, Tokyo and London stores. These are hand-dipped in pure natural indigo on the Woad Inc farm.
LS:N Global will investigate further the resurgence in the use of traditional crafts by contemporary designers in our forthcoming Revivalism macro trend.
