Rooster celebration

15 : 02 : 2017 Jimi Jimi : Sinofuturism : Made In China

China – Jimi Jimi is a new lifestyle collection designed as a celebration of the Year of the Rooster.

  • The collaboration between Chinese clothing designers ZucZug and Berlin-based art duo Zebu focuses on the Chinese zodiac
  • It features a recurring motif of a rooster dressed in European items of clothing such as a turtleneck jumper

ZucZug collaborated with illustration and art duo Zebu to launch a new collection that reflects the brand’s positioning as ‘bright, unique and humorous’ through art and design. The collaboration consists of 40 items of unisex clothing, from jumpsuits to socks, as well as a variety of stationery, puppets and a bicycle.

Jimi Jimi signals a departure from the traditional aesthetic associated with Chinese culture, and in particular Chinese New Year, offering a stylised visual identity that reflects a New Bricolage Living combination of European and Asian influences.

‘We worked closely with their design team and it was a great experience to get to know a bit of Chinese culture,’ Dennis Gärtner and Lynn Lehmann of Zebu tell LS:N Global. ‘[They] introduced us to traditional and contemporary Chinese art and design, and awesome Chinese food. All of this really influenced and inspired our design process.’

The Big Picture

As explored in our Made in China microtrend, Chinese identity is becoming more fluid as it is increasingly shaped by both tradition and outside influences.
