Barcelona – Luxury furniture brand BD Barcelona is demonstrating its commitment to sustainability with a new product range crafted from reclaimed stock.
The concept was inspired by the idea of recycling leftover food to create a kitchen masterpiece and was made a reality after the rediscovery of unused Cristian Cirici-designed brass door handles and knobs in the company’s warehouse dating back to the 1980s.
A change in design direction means that the company no longer features door handles or knobs in its catalogue, but the Cirici designs have been remodelled by Curro Claret as a series of brass candleholders, collectively known as REmix Vol. 1.
The second stage of the project, REmix Vol. 2, features a set of cabinets created by Ramón Úbeda in conjunction with BD’s technical team. The furniture items are being sold as limited-edition pieces and will only be on sale while stocks of the component parts last.
Brands such as BD Barcelona and Kering are demonstrating that Whole-system Thinking is increasingly becoming synonymous with luxury.
