Feeling blue

Zurich – Sustainable clothing brand Freitag has launched a new bag collection that reflects on the colour blue.

  • True Blue comprises six models made from used tarpaulin
  • The bold blues are offset by gold zips, logos and hooks

‘Blue is loyalty, courage and youth. It’s the colour of noble labourers and the impoverished nobility,’ reads a statement on the Freitag website, which introduces the brand’s new collection of bags and pouches.

Pieces from the True Blue collection were made using 100 sheets of used truck tarpaulin that were collected from across Europe.

The nature of the material means that the designs, although sleek with a modern aesthetic, are weathered in appearance, creating a sense of both timelessness and nostalgia. The brand takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to expressing the value of these recycled materials, referring to the colours as ‘authentic ultra-transit and flatbed-truck blue’ and ‘authentic fake gold’, playfully positioning them as highly sought-after shades.

The Big Picture

True Blue highlights hows humble materials can be used to create covetable objects. For more, read our Whole-system Thinking macrotrend.
