Global – Musician Bill Baird’s latest album Summer is Gone uses algorithms to create a unique sound for each listener.
Combining hand-crafted remixes and computer algorithms, Baird has created an album that sounds unique to each listener. The website, created by One Pixel Wide, selects one of Baird’s 250 recordings and using an algorithm formulates a temporary version of the song.
The algorithm is created by combining data from listeners’ IP addresses and the time of day, to produce the illusion of digital serendipity. The songs, which last for only an hour before expiring, reflect on the transitory nature of memory that pervades even in our era of constant digital chronicling.
‘Time changes everything,’ Baird told Gorilla vs Bear. ‘Summer is Gone is my attempt at putting into musical form the aching feeling of memory, of time bending in the best moments of our lives.’
