Milan Salone 2016: Motion capture

15 : 04 : 2016 Lexus : Studio FormaFantasma : Milan Salone

Milan – Automotive brand Lexus is showing a series of kinetic structures and installations designed by Studio FormaFantasma.

  • The series is inspired by the research behind hydrogen fuel cell technology
  • It is the first time Lexus has not shown the concept car being launched at the event

An Encounter With Anticipation is a site-specific kinetic lighting installation with four moving structures in a large former metal factory in the Zona Tortona area of Milan.

Towering stainless steel shapes are choreographed to move slowly above a pale peach toned platform that has a shiny sterile and surreal liquid quality. The movement of the installation is powered by hydrogen fuel cell technology beneath the surface. The installation combines materials indicative of the new Lexus LF-FC car, and finishes that include car paint and cast resin.

Alongside the exhibition, Japanese chef Yoji Tokuyoshi is also serving food inspired by the theme of water, reflecting the crucial element in hydrogen-fuelled cars.

The big picture:
