This year’s theme, Machinic Life, examined how technology may be used to benefit people’s lives in the future, from machines that care to human augmentation.

The museum collaborated with experience design agency Tellart on a series of installations including a future home and a Personal Augmentation Spa, described as ‘a cross between a surgical suite, high-end consumer store and relaxation room’ on the company website.

Tellart, together with agencies Marshmallow Laser Feast, Blue Zoo and Octo, presented an intelligent avatar for the home that offers emotional support and companionship. In one installation, the avatar relaxed in an animated rocking chair as it kept a watchful eye over a baby’s crib.

The Museum of the Future also highlighted innovative wearable technology, such as the Thync headset and feelSpace belt, indicating how mainstream technology may look decades from now.

The Big Picture

As technology becomes more sophisticated and attuned to the nuances of human emotion, we will interact with machines on an increasingly personal level. Speaking at the Dublin Web Summit 2015, Movidius CEO Remi El-Ouazzane explained how this future is fast approaching.
