13 : 10 : 2015 Spring/Summer 2016 : Paris Fashion Week : Louis Vuitton

Global – In a two-part review, LS:N Global examines the design directions that shaped the season.

  • Designers scaled back the theatrical aspects of performance to focus on wearability
  • Stand-out collections included Louis Vuitton, Loewe, Chanel and Marni

The spring/summer 2016 collections championed a new type of consumer – multicultural, peripatetic and future-facing. At Chanel, the runway was turned into a busy airport lounge. Models posed as international jetsetters, with garments drawing on traditional costumes from different cultures.

At Louis Vuitton, Nicolas Ghesquière surprised with a bold futuristic mood. Half sci-fi punks, half video game heroines, his muses walked down the runway in leather kilts and studded jackets, with leather bands on their hands as if ready for a fight.

‘It’s really about travel to the frontier of the digital world. We know Louis Vuitton, the style, the history, the patrimony – this is a way of looking forward. It’s about innovation and the digital travel that we are all experiencing,’ said Ghesquière backstage.
