Amsterdam – This week’s Innovate visits Good Hotel in Amsterdam, a hotel with a conscience.
Quirky yet practical, Good Hotel combines functional, elegant design with socially minded commerce. The not-for-profit venture will teach 100 unemployed locals the art of hospitality.
Art director Remko Verhaagen and lead designer Sikko Valk wanted to celebrate second chances and the value of character through their design concept.
The hotel facilitates a sense of community wherever it is moored, tapping into the character and charm of its locale and people. ‘People don’t want to feel like tourists,’ says sales manager Marije Janssen. ‘They care about the destinations they travel to. We want them to feel like members of our community.’
The Big Picture: Consumers are looking to leave tourism behind and become immersed in the communities of the places they travel to. Find out more by booking your place at Beyond Borders, our Autumn/Winter 2015 Trend Briefing.
