Vienna – Social responsibility and hospitality make good bedfellows at magdas, a hotel where guests share the space with young refugees.
The hotel was built on a budget with a smart, minimalist design by AllesWirdGut Architects. The inviting and homely space is shared by city travellers, overnight trippers and young asylum-seekers alike. Along with 75 rooms reserved for guests there are two residential units that can house up to 25 refugees. Supported by charity, Caritas the hotel is a place for young people who have been forced to flee under threat of war, persecution and torture to begin a new life. Indeed, the rehabilitation begins in the hotel itself as many of the staff are refugees.
The Big Picture: Brandstanding is about making a political statement and taking matters into your own hands to incite social change. In the Anarconomy Decade there is no room to sit on the fence.
