UK – English musician Sam Dust has launched a new song under the moniker LA Priest, but rather than simply releasing it on iTunes or SoundCloud, he created a teaser website where the more you play, the more you hear.
The experience, entitled Earth Window, asks users to find a symbol by scrolling through a colourful, painted page created by visual artist Leon Sadler. When they find the symbol, they can click on it to open another tab, which then triggers another sound. The more tabs that open, the more layered the music becomes. It is discordant and electronic, not necessarily making up an LA Priest, but samples that give a feel for his music. As the user explores further, they are eventually asked to locate a green door, which takes them to the musician’s first new release, Oino.
Since covering Transmedia Music Videos in 2014, LS:N Global has seen a rise in interactive music experiences and platforms. Earth Window tests fans of Dust with a layering of dissonant sounds – promising that only the committed will be able to find his new song. It is a way to engage fans who may be bored with regular music formats, and to create a rabbit-hole entertainment experience.
