Against the grain: The health food store with market stall appeal

05 : 01 : 2015 Mexico : Savvy Studio : Supermarkets

Mexcio City – The design of health food store Germina was inspired by traditional Mexican market stalls, and offers seeds, grain and cereals by weight.

Mexican design studio Savvy took on the design and branding of the store, combining the rustic nature of market shopping with pared-back industrial fittings. The entire space and branding is centred on bringing together this traditional shopping method while making it as simple and modern as possible.

‘[The design] seeks to be extremely practical, using basic packaging made from recycled materials – all customisable – emphasising the product’s name, weight and price, thus following the rituals from the habitual market shopping experience,’ explains the studio.

Grocery stores are increasingly eliminating excess packaging and stripping down to the product, allowing shoppers to make less wasteful purchasing decisions.
