London – To celebrate the opening of Jimmy Choo’s first Townhouse store and the launch of the 2015 Cruise collection, artist Mat Collishaw has created a film and installation for the brand.
Jimmy Choo creative director Sandra Choi has a well-documented love of crystals and gems, and this was the starting point for Collishaw’s short film, Vices. The film also shares its name with a limited-edition capsule collection of crystal-encrusted shoes and bags for the 2015 Cruise collection.
The short film features a model wearing pieces from the capsule collection surrounded by large shards of reflecting light, which are meant to mimic the skyscrapers of London, resulting in a dreamy, kaleidoscopic effect. A digital installation of large crystal shards was presented at an exclusive dinner to celebrate the collection and the opening of the three-storey New Bond Street store.
The other-worldly aesthetic of the designs and the installation represent a Neo-Tolkien attitude towards flights of fantasy. For more on how designers are using references to new-age and fantastical elements, see our Occult Enchantment Design Direction.
