San Francisco – The Interval is the new bar at the Long Now Foundation, an organisation dedicated to fostering creativity in long-term thinking.
Long Now believes society and culture are accelerating at a rapid rate, and people must take the time to think long-term. The Interval is a space made for that to happen. The interiors look similar to a scientist's library, with books considered important tomes for the future that were collected through a crowdsourcing scheme.
Gadgets and gizmos add to the sci-fi feel, with part of Long Now's project, the 10,000 hour clock, on display. Musician Brian Eno, who is a board member, contributed an ever-changing light installation and an ambient music sound track. Later this year, there are plans to introduce a robot barman and a robot who will continually write predictions about the future on a big black chalk board.
We live in an age in which scientific thinking rules. The Interval bar shows how our Re-enlightenment Rising macrotrend is applicable to different sectors.
