London – The fashion industry is preparing to scout for new design talent at next week’s Graduate Fashion Week (GFW), where the work of over 1,000 students from 42 colleges from around the world will be showcased.

GFW has moved east, to the capital’s hipster destination, Shoreditch. ‘The move to the Old Truman Brewery marks a new era for GFW, in the heart of one of London’s most vibrant, creative areas,’ says Hilary Alexander OBE, a fashion writer and Graduate Fashion Week Trustee. ‘The space allows us to expand the workshop and atelier areas of the exhibition, as well as showcase the graduate collections on some very cool catwalks.’

Sponsored by George at Asda for the fourth year, the week will comprise pop-up shows, photo shoots, workshops and interactive talks with British designers such as Gareth Pugh and menswear duo Agi & Sam. The universities to watch include London College of Fashion for its seminars programme, the University of Brighton and University of Hertfordshire. According to a report in the London Evening Standard, this year’s hot student names include Kim Stevenson (University of East London) for her appliqué and fringing work, Chloe Woodgate (Colchester School of Art) for her African tribal prints, Lavinia Cadar (University of Epsom) for her elegant geometric silhouettes, and Lauren Lake (Kingston University) for an Antarctic-themed collection.

LS:N Global will be reporting with daily updates from GFW and the finale show.
