Miami – Human thoughts about time are as old as time itself. For Art Basel Miami Beach 2013, design collective Inventory will host a multidisciplinary exhibit, TIME, which explores how time is understood and how humanity connects to an ephemeral construct of its own making.
Among the artists and designers showing their interpretation of time will be food designers Studio Appetit, who will explore how time changes food – whether because it rots or because it gets eaten. Products such as Marjan van Aubel and James Shaw’s Well Proven Chair, which is made from bio-resin and waste and physically changes over time, will also be on show.
‘The disparate designers in TIME are inspired by a range of materials and ideology,’ says Inventory, ‘but find themselves connected through their awareness of objects’ functions as signifiers of particular, emotional spaces in time.’
TIME will be on display in the Design District during Art Basel Miami Beach. LS:N Global will be heading to Miami in December, covering Design Miami/ and the crossover with Art Basel.
