Space craft: Small is beautiful in new hotel

29 : 11 : 2013 Hotel : Amsterdam : Just Nots

London – In the hotel world, budget no longer means thin sheets and even thinner walls. Dutch hotel Qbic has opened a location in east London, bringing its hugely stylish budget capsule-hotel brand overseas, adding to the fray of budget-luxe hotels and hostels.

Qbic combines a modular hotel with the design of a luxury boutique venue. Each room is petite but well designed, as everything is contained inside one structure, the Cubis, which squeezes the bed, bathroom and other furniture into a tiny square footage.

Qbic London City was designed by English firm Blacksheep, ensuring that the vibrancy of the East End would be translated in the look of the hotel.

‘Qbic’s coming to London marks the growth in the trend of affordable luxury,’ said Tim Mutton, Blacksheep co-founder. ‘People are demanding more for their money and brands such as Qbic are answering this demand by creating unique design and hospitality experiences for their guests but at an affordable price. It’s all about bringing a different concept to the market.’

LS:N Global is seeing more and more budget hotels that consider price and design to be equally important. For more, see our Designer Bunks microtrend.
