Visual audio: Project shows what sound looks like

London, Varese, Italy – The Dedolo project is a collaboration between digital sculptor Quayola and sound and visual artist Natan Sinigaglia to create digital renderings of the appearance of sound playing in real time.

London, Varese, Italy – The Dedolo project is a collaboration between digital sculptor Quayola and sound and visual artist Natan Sinigaglia to create digital renderings of the appearance of sound playing in real time.

Creating their own software using vvvv programming technology, the pair were able to manipulate different moving sculptures that turns audio content into a visual form. In the video above you can see the digital sculpture writhe and shift as if it were a living creature.

‘The interesting thing about working with graphics and sound is that you can perceive the intimate nature of an entity in a deeper way,’ Sinigaglia tells LS:N Global. ‘Both the light that comes to your eyes and the sound waves that reach your ears are a manifestation of the same thing.’

Sound is the latest medium to capture designers’ and brands’ imagination. Quayola’s and Sinigaglia’s project – which is being exhibited around the world – demonstrates new ways of visualising sound and experiencing it in a novel way.
