Argentina – Designers Alexandra Kehayoglu and Maxi Ciovich have created a wool chair that melds art and design, with the materials spilling out onto the floor creating a carpet/chair hybrid.
The Winter Passing chair is made from strips of cherry wood with triangular intersections, and a woven wool carpet fitted as an inviting furry seat. The fluidity of the design makes the work appear to be art from afar, but the tactile, luxurious nature of the materials and the chair’s practical form make it a viable sitting option. It is something to be viewed and to be used.
‘Almost like a performance, the spectator can situate himself either inside or outside,’ say the designers. ‘One has the possibility of submerging into the chair’s landscape, or remaining outside.’
The Winter Passing chair is reminiscent of designs LS:N Global spotted at the Stockholm Furniture Fair 2013, where there was a new luxury sobriety design direction, seeing designers using high-quality materials in austere ways.
