26 : 02 : 2013 Wood : Adaptability : The Stooler

Spain – Spanish designer Andreu Carulla has created The Stooler, which enables people to make a chair out of objects they have lying around.

The simple piece, consisting of four wooden legs, adjustable straps and buckles, can be adapted to fit a variety of objects, which are then secured to form a seat. Whether it is a pile of sticks, a bale of hay, a crate or an exercise ball, all can be transformed into a stool.

This is a great idea for festival-goers who could make a quick seat out of some sticks lying around. It could also come in handy on a packed commuter train.

There is a growing culture for consumers to create products themselves in the era of the DIY economy. For more, read our DIY design direction.
