Las Vegas – Technology manufacturer Philips has unveiled the GoSafe, a personal emergency response device, at International CES 2013. The system provides safety information to relatives and carers of the elderly.
A small wireless button is worn around the neck as a pendant, and tracks its wearer’s movements. The GoSafe button can detect when an elderly person has tripped or fallen. In the event of an emergency, the wearer can press the button and speak to Philips’ Lifeline Response Center, which can advise what to do and alert the emergency services if necessary. If a fall is detected and the user is unable to speak, as in the case of a stroke, a GPS system can direct paramedics to them.
As we revealed in our InPatients tribe report, an ageing population is resulting in more forms of tracking and home care.
