Retro trip: Vintage ads aim to draw Brits to France

23 : 04 : 2012 Mr.h : The French Tourist Board : France

London – London-based creative communications agency mr.h has art directed a series of retro illustrated posters for The French Tourist Board in the UK to entice British holidaymakers to western France.

Illustrator Paul Thurlby depicts six classic scenes of a French holiday in a vintage cartoon style that references the iconic Jacques Tati film posters of the 60s.

Car rental company Hertz’s latest advertising campaign takes a similar look back to a vintage aesthetic, as does the recent 60s-inspired edition of US weekly magazine Newsweek.

These examples, compounded by the popularity of retro imagery on Tumblr and blogs, demonstrate consumers’ sense of nostalgia for the past, as noted in our Revivalism macrotrend.
