Cape Town – South African water conservation organisation FLOW has launched Close the Tap, a Twitter-based initiative that urges people to Tweet water-saving tips.
A live ‘Flowcam’ shows a graphic of a running tap, symbolising wasted water, the flow of which shows a reduction with every related Tweet made. When the target of 10,000 Tweets is met, the tap will stop running.
This campaign demonstrates consumers’ recognition and enjoyment of virtual symbols for things that don’t physically exist. For more on the blurring of our real and virtual worlds, read our Inform with author and games designer Tom Chatfield.
