On the Mend: African women show bags of love

San Diego – Non-profit-making social enterprise Mend has released a line of tote bags created by women from northern Uganda whose lives have been affected by rebel group the Lord’s Resistance Army.

The product line comprises three bags, each carrying the name and fingerprint of the seamstress who made it. Consumers can also view a video profile of the seamstress who made their bag, and a pocket stamp inside explains how their purchase will affect her family.

‘A lot of love goes into each of the bags made here at Mend,’ explains Chris Sarette, project director. ‘We wanted to create a bag that captured as much detail as possible about its maker.’
