New York – A new exhibition puts the spotlight not just on beautiful products, but highlights a new take on manufacturing processes as well. Nendo: Ghost Stories, a collection of works by the Japanese design studio now showing at Friedman Benda, deliberately subverts traditional methods of creating furniture. The ‘Cabbage Chair’, for instance, is made from pleated paper rolls – waste products left over from producing fashion designer Issey Miyake’s pleated fabrics. Rather than focus on tradition, the Nendo designers count on their Dreamtelligence, thinking far beyond the limits of the box to envision fantastical processes and creations, and offering the ultimate in the unconventional and the creative.
